What Conditions May Be Treated With Auricular Medicine?

Auricular Medicine is an experimental theory that uses stimulations of precise points on the ear which are projected by nerves from the skin on the ear into the brain. At the brain things get extremely complicated but we do know that peripheral stimulations (such as in this case, the skin of the ear) affect the release and uptake of many neurotransmitters which the brain uses to perform its functions. We know also that reflex connections between the ear and the body exist and have been validated by fMRI studies. Since the brain runs the body, it is theoretically possible to influence all manner of physical and emotional conditions by this method.

Practically, auricular medicine research and empirical evidence has so far focused on viable treatment protocols for the treatment of addictions, pain control, allergies and food sensitivities, and functional disturbances such as anxiety, PTSD, and depression.

Many other physical and psychological problems may be amenable to treatment and are actively being explored with varying degrees of success among the tens of thousands of practitioners around the world.

The ninth and most recent gathering of world authorities and researchers in this field was held in Singapore in August of 2017. The results are published in the journal MEDICINES and you may download the abstracts or a pdf version through my "External Links" page or you could do your own searches. This will give you a sample of the scope of current investigation topics.
